Über uns
Precision and Inspiration for the perfect Seam.
SCHMETZ is a long-established company in the manufacture of high-quality needles for industrial and household sewing machines. The company was founded in Herzogenrath in 1851 and now has around 476 employees worldwide.
The SCHMETZ brand is extremely well established in the sewing industry and also known and popular among hobby sewers
The product and service spectrum of SCHMETZ covers a complete range for the individual requirements of over 47 sectors in the sewing and textile processing industry, as well as for workshops and the hobby sector. Placing the highest demands on the materials used, the processing techniques and product quality, combined with the goal of developing tailored solutions for every application, are both the focus and the mission statement of the company
SCHMETZ in the sewing industry
The SCHMETZ brand is extremly well established in the sewing industry around the world, and serves all 47 sectors. Each sector places unique requirements on the sewing process, which SCHMETZ covers with its complete range of around 3.000 product types. The service is rounded off with sector-specific consultation expertise and targeted service activities. This is why quality and production managers as well as technicans in sewing factories around the world value SCHMETZ as a competent partner at their side.
SCHMETZ in the hobby sewing sector
The SCHMETZ brand is also known and popular among hobby sewers. Also in the hobby sewing sector selecting the correct needle is the key for a perfect sewing result. Accordingly, SCHMETZ products for the hobby sector are tailored to those individual needs and requirements. The extensive range consisting of round 300 products has the right needle for any application. At SCHMETZ, the same high standards for industrial sewing machine needles also apply to needles for the hobby sector. This means that hobby sewers can also sew with industrial quality, which can significantly improve their results.

SCHMETZ GO Needles
SCHMETZ GO Needles
Large eye area for heavy sewing threads
Usually, the needle size to be used is determined according to the sewing thread. However, sometimes it is necessary to sew with heavy sewing threads and it is not possible to match them to the corresponding needle size. For those cases, needles with GO design can help to avoid thread breakage and skip stitches and to achieve proper seams. The eye of GO needles is enlarged by 2 sizes in relation to the needle size, e.g. in a needle of size 70/10 the eye is of a needle size 90/14. Also the groove is enlarged.
Advantages:
- Thread guidance optimized by lowered friction, smooth passage of the sewing thread
- Minimization of damage to the sewing thread
- Reduced machine downtime
- Allows the use of thinner needles without changing the thread size
- Allows the use of a thicker sewing thread without changing the needle size
Application:
- Use of heavy threads or effect threads
- Decorative seams
- For achieving smaller stitch holes by using thinner needles, without getting thread problems

SCHMETZ KN Needles
SCHMETZ KN Needles
Slim needle against knitwear damage
SCHMETZ KN needles have a slim, continuous cylindrical blade without any reinforcement. Compared to a standard needle, the cross-section of the eye area is reduced and the shape from the eye area to the ball point is slim.
Advantages:
- Smaller stitch holes than with standard needles
- Minimizes knitwear damage due to the slim shape
- Reduced penetration force in comparison to standard needles
Application:
- Very fine knitwear
- Reduction of seam puckering

SCHMETZ SERV 7 Needles
SCHMETZ SERV 7
Increased needle stability and reliable seams
Besides fabric damage, skip stitches are a problem that frequently arises when sewing elastic material. To prevent them, SCHMETZ developed the SERV 7 needle. This specially shaped needle is made for almost all needle systems, with all the main point shapes and in all current needle sizes.
The main distinguishing features of the SERV 7 design are the hump scarf that makes a particularly large loop of thread which can be more easily caught by the point of the hook and the blade reinforcement, that ensures the extraordinarily high stability of the needle. To produce the smallest possible stitch holes and optimise fabric displacement, the SERV 7 design thus often allows the use of a needle one size smaller without any reduction in the stability of the needle.
SERV 7 needles have a 15 % reinforcement, and as much as 20 % in some needle sizes. Therefore, the needle is especially stable and far less likely to “bend”. Neither the hook or looper nor other machine parts, e.g. the throat plate, are damaged.
Advantages:
- Effective prevention of skipped stitches
- Extremely high needle stability prevents the needle from deflection
- Less needle breakage
- Compared to a standard needle a smaller needle size possible without loss of stability
- Precise stitches and therefore neat seam appearance
- High productivity
- Reduced wear on machine parts (hook, needle plate, etc.) and therefore reduced costs
Application:
- Highly elastic materials
- Sewing a varying number of material layers in one operation
- Thick and strong material layers
- Material combinations
- Cross seams
- Use of elastic sewing threads
- Multidirectional seams

SCHMETZ NIT Needles
SCHMETZ NIT Needles
Special anti-adhesive coating with excellent gliding properties
To protect industrial sewing machine needles against corrosion they are coated with hard chrome, but also to provide a better glidability, as this coating reduces friction during the sewing process. For standard requirements, this conventional coating is more than sufficient. Challenging sewing processes sometimes require the use of needles with a special coating, for instance in the processing of abrasive materials or fabrics with a high man-made fiber content.
Abrasion and high sewing speeds generate high needle temperatures. There are a few ways to keep the temperature down. Still, in some occasions, melted synthetic material sticks to the needles surface clogging the long groove and the needle´s eye disturbing the sewing process or even damaging material and thread.
NIT–coating is a solution to many of these situations.
Advantages:
- Prevents the adhesion of melted residues on the needle even when sewing critical materials, therefore the needle stays clean for longer
- Nearly 20% better glidability of the thread through the eye of a NIT coated needle:
- Easy sliding of sewing thread through needle eye allowing the use of very thick sewing threads possible
- Easy penetration of hard materials due to outstanding low-friction properties of the surface
- Optimum thread protection
- Avoids thread breakage
- Less skip stitches
- More continuity in the sewing process due to reduced downtime
Application:
- Materials with a low softening/melting point
- Man-made materials
- Materials with a high man-made fibre content
- Materials with special finishing, e.g. flame retardant, color, modifications of textile threads or surfaces as regards wear and care properties
- Heavy and hard materials
- Coated materials
- In case of needle and eye smearing when using standard chrome plated needles
